“ANWU NA ONWA / SUN + MOON”

A collection inspired by a southern Nigerian folktale that tells of how the oceans came to cover the globe and the sun and moon came to live in the sky!

Inspired by the Nigerian river of the same name—the Otamiri shirt & pants exude the same calm coolness the river possesses.

"The Otamiri River is one of the main rivers in Imo State, Nigeria. The river takes its name from Ota Miri, a deity who owns all the waters that are called by his name, and who is often the dominating god of Mbari houses."—Wikipedia

Inspired by the two Imo State, Nigerian rivers—Ogbuide and Orashi—which converge without mixing, this design highlights stark contrasts in both color and pattern.

"Locals believe that the two rivers were male and female, man and wife. The green water is Ogbuide, believed to be the female. The brown water is the male, Urashi. The stories claim that they had a quarrel, since then, they have flowed separately. Nowadays, the two are deities; man and wife have become god and goddess.”—Segun Akande, Pulse Nigeria
